ITINERARY
Dhaka overnight river cruise - Barisal Floating Market - overnight river cruise 02 Nights & 01 Day
Day 01: River Journey to Barisal & Floating Gypsy Village
Our guide will arrive at your hotel or home address and we will pick you up in the afternoon to drive to Sadargaht Riverport. Sadarghat river port is the busiest and most interesting river port of Bangladesh and from here all the small and big ships start the cruise to the southern part of Bangladesh. upon arrival, transfer to the awaiting boat to board to enjoy the cruise on the day trip! the day tour includes -
Dhaka to Elisha is the popular day route for launch or ferry boats. We will book a private cabin with an attached toilet for clients to enjoy the river journey. The boat starts at 8:00 am from Dhaka and you will enjoy four hours of cruise crossing all the mighty rivers Padma/ Ganges, Meghna, Sondha and at around noon arrive at Bhola Elisha ghat.
Upon arrival, Bhola, disembarked and transferred to Veduriya Ferry ghat (10km). Upon arrival cross the river by speed boat or ferry boat and visit the largest floating gypsy fisherman village on the way! Nomadic River Gypsy is a group of people living in the river from generation to generation with their families from birth to death. Far from all basic facilities, life is very hard, but they still live on their legacy. Depending on the season, they move in groups of 5 to 10 boats from one to another place. We will go to meet to learn a very different way of life.
Later transfer to Barisal town by car and on the way to the hotel, we will stop at the Oxford Mission church (subject to getting the permit from the church authority) transfer to the hotel check-in and overnight in Barisal
Day 02: Floating Market Tour & nomadic river Gypsy lifestyle on Boats
Early in the morning, we will arrive at Barisal river port, the river port gets busy by that time. We will disembark from the boat and meet our car to drive to Banoripara boat station to visit the floating markets. The day tour includes –
On the way, we will stop at the gutia mosque compound. It is one new and nicest mosque with the tallest minaret. The compound is nice, you can also visit the mosque without the prayer time
Upon arrival at Banoripara boat station, board our engine boat for a backwater floating market tour. This open-engine boat with chairs and a tea–coffee facility gives a quick start to the day.
The cruise through the river and the number of small canals are one of the main highlights of the tour. In this region, life is always on the water. In the morning going to the market, you will experience the everyday life of locals going to market, coming to the river for cleaning works, weaving hands from home, farmers bringing crops by boat to the markets, wooden bridges and fruit or vegetable orchards, and many more
The floating markets are more than 200 years old tradition and every week on different days in places the vegetable markets, the rice market, boat market. The markets begin early in the morning between 08 am to 10:30 am. Farmers bring all their crops by wooden boat to do their buy and selling. at around 50 – 200 boats come to do their trading. after a brief tour, we will go to one of the Bazar buy our breakfast, and enjoy the breakfast on the boat
We will show you the floating vegetable gardens, due to a shortage of land local farmers grow crops in shallow rivers with their local techniques. It is one of the unique ways of agriculture getting popular in the watery areas.
We will stop at one of the local brick factories to watch the traditional entire process of making bricks. It is very interesting to watch seeing from the clay burn bricks.
Disembark from the boat and we will start driving back to Dhaka. On the way, we will stop to visit the beautiful Mia Bari mosque. Built in 18th AD with a mugul architecture will impress you with its simple design!
Later continue driving to Dhaka. It will be approximately 5 hour's journey to drive back to the town. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel or residence and end the tour!
